Yakima County Solid Waste is hosting its fifth Youth Environmental Summit (Y.E.S.) on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Yakima Convention Center in recognition of America Recycles Day. The goal of the summit is to empower students and school staff to be environmental advocates in their schools, homes and communities.
The Youth Environmental Summit is free to attend for middle, junior and senior high students and staff. Students, teachers or environmental organizations interested in participating in Y.E.S. 2016 can contact Yakima County Solid Waste 509-574-2450 or register on-line.
The 2016 Youth Environmental Summit will feature Jen Rustemeyer, an award winning producer of the documentary "Just Eat It" and Andy Keller, environmental activist and founder of the reusable bag company, ChicoBag.
The event also features exhibits from local environmental organizations including the Yakima Area Arboretum, Yakima Regional Clean Air Agency, and PSE Wild Horse Wind Facility among others. There is no charge for organizations to provide an exhibit.
The next Youth Environmental Summit will take place November 9th, 2016.
